Enduring Love by Richard Jones

It's a sequel to Mountain Romance. Follow the adventures of Red and Mattie as they travel to the mountains.

Excerpt:
Mattie Sharp sat across the fire from her benefactor, Red
Holden, feasting on a breakfast of bacon and biscuits as she sipped
the strongest coffee she’d ever tasted. Despite the fact she couldn’t
remember the last time she had a bath, slept in a bed, or had any
fresh clothes, she was still the happiest she’d ever been.
“What now, Red?” she asked with a smile.
Red stroked his chin as if deep in thought then returned her
smile. “I figure we’ll head south to pick up our gear and the mule,”
he replied. “Then, if you’re still wanting to go, we’ll start for the
mountains.”
“I’m still wanting,” she said mimicking his drawl. “I can’t go
wrapped in a blanket. You do know I’m naked under this.”
“That’s something pretty hard to forget,” he told her with a
twinkle in his eye.
Mattie pulled the blanket tighter around her body and stared
back at him. It wasn’t that she didn’t feel the same passion rising.
There was a time and place for such things and this was neither.
“Control yourself, Red Holden,” she commanded. “We have
a trip to plan and my dress lost so many buttons it won’t cover
much more than this blanket. That is unless you carry needle and
thread in those saddlebags of yours—which I doubt.”
Red said not a word as he pulled the dress from behind him,
buttons and all.
Mattie’s eyes grew wide with amazement.
“You fixed the dress,” she finally said. “You can sew.”
Red’s face turned crimson. “Let’s keep that to ourselves,” he
said. “Most cowboys learn to sew same as they learn to break a
mustang—by doing it. I’d just as soon nobody knows I work on
ladies’ dresses too.”
